What the plugin does: It adds advanced product customization fields to WooCommerce, calculates add-on pricing live, and carries the customer selections into cart, checkout, orders, and emails.

Step 01

Install the plugin

  1. Download the plugin ZIP file from your BricksUltimate account or the beta download link.
  2. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  3. Upload the ZIP file and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate Plugin after WordPress finishes installing it.
  5. Make sure WooCommerce is installed and active, because the add-ons are attached to WooCommerce products.

After activation, you will see the Ultimate Addons menu in the WordPress dashboard.

Step 02

Activate your license key

  1. Open WordPress Dashboard > Ultimate Addons > License.
  2. Paste your license key into the license field.
  3. Click Activate License.
  4. When the license is active, the button changes to Deactivate License.
  5. Keep the license active to receive plugin updates from your store account.

The license key is stored encrypted in the database when encryption is available on the server.

Step 03

Create Global Groups

Global Groups are reusable add-on groups. Use them when the same options should appear on many products, such as gift wrap, delivery date, color choices, custom text, uploads, or measurement fields.

  1. Go to Ultimate Addons > Add Global Groups.
  2. Click Add Group.
  3. Enter the group name, optional description, and choose whether to show them on the frontend.
  4. Choose Group by Category or Group by Product.
  5. Select the product categories or products where this group should appear.
  6. Add fields inside the group and configure labels, help text, pricing, options, defaults, and conditional logic.
  7. Click Save Changes.
Example: Create a Gift Options group, assign it to the Clothing category, then add Gift wrap, Gift message, and Delivery date fields.

Step 04

Create independent product add-ons

Product-level add-ons are best when one product needs its own custom options. When product-level add-ons are enabled, they replace matching global add-ons for that product.

  1. Go to Products and edit the WooCommerce product.
  2. Open the Product Data panel.
  3. Click the Product Add-Ons tab.
  4. Enable Product add-ons to override global add-ons for this product.
  5. Create groups and fields just like the Global Groups builder.
  6. Update the product.
Example: For a custom poster product, add a Measurement / Area Pricing field, paper finish swatches, and an artwork upload field only for that product.

Field setup

Sell related products with the Product Bundle field

The Product Bundle Add-On field adds selected WooCommerce products or variations as real linked cart rows. Use it for accessories, optional upgrades, starter kits, replacement parts, or products sold at a special bundle price.

  1. Add a new field inside a Global Group or a product-level add-on group.
  2. Enter a customer-facing field label, then choose Product Bundle Add-On as the field type.
  3. Use Products / Variations to search for every item the customer may add.
  4. Choose how the options appear: Checkboxes, Radio buttons, Select dropdown, or Card layout.
  5. Choose a Price mode and enter the price or discount value when that mode needs one.
  6. Choose a Quantity mode. Enter a fixed quantity when using Fixed quantity.
  7. Choose how unavailable products should be handled with Stock behavior.
  8. Enable Required when the customer must choose a bundle item, then save the group or update the product.

Bundle display and pricing controls

Checkboxes or cards

Customers can select multiple bundle products. Cards include the product image, name, calculated bundle price, and stock state.

Radio or select

Customers choose one bundle product. Use radio buttons for visible comparison or a select dropdown for a compact layout.

Same or override price

Use the WooCommerce product price automatically, or replace it with the exact bundle item price you enter.

Discount or free

Subtract a fixed amount, apply a percentage discount, or include the selected bundle item at no charge.

Quantity and stock behavior

  • Fixed quantity: every selection adds the quantity configured by the store owner.
  • Same as parent: the bundle quantity follows the main product quantity and stays synchronized when the cart quantity changes.
  • User selectable: the customer chooses the quantity for each selected bundle item.
  • Stock handling: respect stock normally, hide out-of-stock choices, or display unavailable choices in a disabled state.
Example: Build a laptop accessory bundle Add a mouse, laptop sleeve, and USB-C dock. Use the Card layout, allow multiple selections, apply a 10% bundle discount, and keep each accessory quantity synchronized with the laptop quantity.

Bundle selections are real WooCommerce cart items, so WooCommerce can retain their product or variation identity, stock behavior, quantity, price, and order line details. Do not select the main product itself as one of its own bundle items.

Field setup

Collect a separate recipient or delivery address

The Address field keeps a complete address together inside one add-on field. It is useful when the product should be sent to a gift recipient, event venue, installation address, or another destination that differs from the WooCommerce billing and shipping address.

  1. Add a new field and enter a clear label such as Gift recipient address or Installation address.
  2. Choose Address field as the field type.
  3. Add optional Description / help text explaining when this address will be used.
  4. Place the help text above or below the inputs, or display it as a tooltip.
  5. Enable Required when the customer must complete the entire address.
  6. Optionally enable field pricing when collecting the address should add a fixed delivery or handling fee.
  7. Save the group and test the address on a matching product page.

Recipient name

The person or business receiving the product.

Street address

The full street and building address, displayed across the wider row.

City and state

Separate locality and state/province inputs with browser address autocomplete support.

ZIP and country

Dedicated postal code and country inputs complete the destination.

Example: Send a gift to another person Create a Gift delivery group with Recipient address, Delivery date, and Gift note fields. Mark the address as required and assign the group only to gift products.

When Required is enabled, all six address inputs must be completed. The formatted address travels through AJAX add-to-cart, cart, checkout, order details, WooCommerce emails, and the admin order editor.

Backup and migration

Import / Export add-on setups

The Import / Export tab helps agencies, store owners, and staging/live workflows move complete add-on setups between WordPress sites. Use JSON for real backup and restore work, and CSV when you want a readable review file for clients, teammates, or spreadsheet audits.

Full JSON backup

Use Download JSON Backup to export global groups, product-specific groups, plugin settings, and design settings in one portable file. This is the best option before changing a live store or moving from staging to production.

CSV review export

Use Download CSV Review when you need a spreadsheet-friendly audit of groups, fields, field types, required status, pricing mode, price, conditions, and product/category assignments.

Restore from backup

Upload a JSON backup, preview it, choose the import sections and import mode, then run the import. The plugin will report what was imported, updated, skipped, missing, or remapped.

Image swatch handling

Image swatch URLs are preserved by default. You can also choose to download remote image swatches into the local WordPress Media Library and remap the imported image URLs.

Export scopes

Full backup

Exports plugin settings, global add-on groups, product-specific add-ons, and design settings in one JSON file.

All global groups

Exports every reusable global group, including group details, assignments, fields, prices, defaults, conditions, measurements, and swatch URLs.

Selected global groups

Choose only the global groups you want to move or share with another site.

Product-specific add-ons

Exports add-ons saved directly inside one product editor, useful for duplicating a custom product setup.

Only plugin settings

Exports enabled status, frontend position, separate line item mode, pricing labels, and stylesheet settings.

Only design settings

Exports Design tab styling values and label-related design configuration.

Import modes

Merge with existing data

Add imported groups to the current setup while keeping existing groups.

Replace existing groups/settings

Replace the selected import sections with the data from the backup. Use this for full restore workflows.

Import as new copy

Create imported groups as new copies, useful when testing or duplicating a setup without overwriting existing groups.

Skip duplicates

Skip groups that appear to already exist by matching group names or internal IDs.

Update matching groups

Update existing matching groups instead of creating new copies.

Import preview and validation

Always click Preview Import before running an import. The preview shows the number of groups, fields, product-specific add-on sets, image URLs, missing products, missing categories, and possible conflicts.

  • Duplicate detection: warns about matching group names, field labels, and internal field IDs.
  • Product mapping: checks whether product-specific add-ons can be matched to a local product by ID or slug.
  • Category mapping: checks whether imported category assignments exist on the local site.
  • Missing target handling: choose whether to keep original product/category IDs or skip missing assignments.
  • Image URL report: counts image swatch URLs found in the backup before import.

Recommended workflows

  1. Before editing a live site: choose Full backup and download a JSON file.
  2. Moving staging to live: export Full backup from staging, upload it on live, preview it, then use Replace existing groups/settings if the live site should match staging.
  3. Sharing only a template group: choose Selected global groups, export the group, then import it as a new copy on the target site.
  4. Duplicating one custom product setup: choose Product-specific add-ons for one product, then import on the target site and check the product mapping preview.
  5. Client review: download the CSV review file and share it as a spreadsheet before launch.

JSON is the correct format for backup, restore, and migration. CSV is for review only and should not be used as a restore file.

Manual orders

Add product add-ons inside WooCommerce orders

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Orders and create or edit an order.
  2. Add a product line item to the order.
  3. Open the Add-ons panel under that product line item.
  4. Select or enter the required add-on values.
  5. Click Save items so add-on prices update the line item total.
  6. Click Update order to save the order.

Admin-selected add-ons are stored as order item meta, so they can appear in order details, customer account pages, and WooCommerce emails.

Design and compatibility

Style, translate, and customize

Design tab

Use Ultimate Addons > Design to style the frontend wrapper, groups, labels, descriptions, inputs, choices, color swatches, image swatches, measurement fields, pricing rows, and grand total. The preview stays sticky while you scroll.

Custom CSS mode

In General settings, you can disable the plugin frontend stylesheet when you want to build the design completely from your theme, ACSS, or custom CSS.

WPML and Polylang

The plugin registers customer-facing strings for popular translation plugins, including group labels, field labels, options, measurement labels, pricing labels, cart details, and order meta.

Conditional logic

Use conditional logic to show fields only when other fields match a value, contain text, are filled, are empty, or match number rules. Use all-rules or any-rule matching.
